Matiks Raises $10 Million to Take Its Puzzle Gaming Platform Global

Matiks Secures $10 Million in Pre-Series A Funding

Bengaluru-based gaming startup Matiks has raised $10 million (approximately ₹95.1 crore) in a pre-Series A funding round as it looks to expand its maths and puzzle-based gaming platform into international markets.

The round was led by General Catalyst, with participation from Ronnie Screwvala, founder of upGrad, and existing investors Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures.

Founded in 2024, Matiks plans to use the fresh capital to strengthen its technology, develop new games, expand its engineering and product teams, and grow its presence in overseas markets. The startup is also working on an AI-powered game creation engine that will allow users to build and publish their own social games without writing code.

The funding comes as Matiks looks to establish a larger presence in the global gaming industry by making brain-based games more engaging, competitive and accessible.

Making Maths and Puzzles More Engaging

Matiks was founded by Sudhanshu Bhatia, Mohan Kumar and Sushant Timmapur. The platform offers a range of games focused on mathematics, memory, logic and puzzles, allowing users to test their skills and compete against other players.

Rather than focusing solely on conventional mobile gaming formats, Matiks aims to make mental challenges a form of social entertainment. Players can compete with friends and other users, take part in challenges, and build communities around their interests.

The idea is to make activities such as solving puzzles and performing mental calculations as engaging as traditional sports and esports.

"We started Matiks with a simple belief: using your brain can be just as fun and addictive as any other form of entertainment," said co-founder and CEO Sudhanshu Bhatia.

The company wants to make mind sports more mainstream by giving people who enjoy mental challenges opportunities to compete, connect with other players and gain recognition.

Strong User Growth Fuels Expansion Plans

Matiks has reported encouraging growth since launching its platform. As of September 2026, the startup said more than 22 lakh players had collectively played around 4.8 crore games on its platform.

The company also reported approximately 3 lakh daily active users, indicating growing interest in its approach to social and competitive gaming.

While India remains its primary market, Matiks has started seeing early traction in countries such as the United States, Japan and South Korea.

The startup plans to prioritise expansion in the US before entering additional major markets. It also intends to invest in localisation and distribution to make its games more accessible to international audiences.

Alongside geographical expansion, Matiks will focus on strengthening its player communities and building partnerships with creators who can help introduce the platform to new audiences.

AI-Powered Tools to Let Users Create Their Own Games

A key part of Matiks' expansion strategy is the development of an AI-powered game creation engine.

The planned platform will allow users to design, create and publish social games without needing programming skills. This could make game development more accessible to people who have creative ideas but lack the technical expertise to turn them into playable experiences.

The company expects the initiative to support a broader ecosystem of user-generated games, giving players more ways to participate beyond simply playing existing titles.

By combining social gaming with accessible creation tools, Matiks hopes to encourage greater participation and give its community a more active role in shaping the platform.

Building this capability will require continued investment in engineering, artificial intelligence, product development and design. The new funding is expected to support these efforts alongside the company's international expansion.

India's Gaming Industry Attracts Fresh Investor Interest

Matiks' latest funding round reflects growing investor interest in India's gaming industry, particularly in business models that extend beyond conventional mobile games and real-money gaming.

India has an estimated 51 crore gamers, creating a large potential audience for gaming companies. At the same time, the rise of AI and changing regulatory conditions are encouraging developers to explore different formats, including social games and skill-based experiences.

The shift has also brought fresh attention to companies building new gaming experiences for mobile users and online communities.

Other Indian gaming startups have recently attracted significant investment. Mobile gaming studio Spill Games raised $10.5 million in a Series A round led by Elevation Capital, while LightFury Games secured $11 million in pre-Series A funding from Blume Ventures and other investors.

LightFury Games has also attracted investments from well-known cricketing personalities, including Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya.

These developments point to continued investor interest in India's gaming ecosystem, even as companies explore new genres and revenue models.

According to market projections cited by Inc42, India's gaming market could reach $9.9 billion by 2031.

The Road Ahead for Matiks

With $10 million in fresh capital, Matiks is preparing for its next phase of growth. Its priorities include expanding into international markets, introducing more games, strengthening its technology infrastructure and developing tools that let users create their own gaming experiences.

The startup's challenge will be to maintain user engagement as it expands beyond India and competes for attention in established gaming markets.

Its AI-powered creation engine could also open up new opportunities by allowing creators to contribute games and experiences to the platform. However, the success of this strategy will depend on the quality of the tools, the appeal of user-generated content and Matiks' ability to build an active global community.

For now, the company is betting that maths, memory and puzzle games can become more than occasional brain exercises. By combining competition, social interaction and user-generated content, Matiks wants to build a global platform where mental skills are at the centre of entertainment.
