Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has said the state government will take appropriate action if private companies are found deliberately denying employment opportunities to Kannadigas.
In a post on social media platform X on Sunday, Shivakumar said the government was taking complaints about local people being overlooked for jobs, particularly in Bengaluru’s IT sector, seriously. He added that the rights, dignity and employment opportunities of Kannadigas would not be compromised.
Addressing concerns over reports that Kannada-speaking residents were being sidelined by technology companies in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said the government would not ignore the issue.
He emphasised that Kannadigas should be treated fairly and that their interests must be protected. According to him, the state would respond if any private institution were found to have intentionally excluded local candidates from employment.
Shivakumar also highlighted Bengaluru’s position as a major global technology hub, noting that Karnataka takes pride in the skills, capabilities and talent of its people.
The Deputy Chief Minister reiterated that the government remained committed to safeguarding the interests of Kannadigas and ensuring they had access to employment opportunities within the state.
His remarks come amid concerns about hiring practices in Bengaluru’s technology industry, where companies recruit professionals from across India and abroad. The government has indicated that it will act if evidence emerges of deliberate discrimination against local candidates.
