India secures high in digital account trade velocity, but secure autonomy lags: Heloix

India’s operational velocity in the high-demand digital account secondary market is projected to rise from 5% in 2025 to 18% by 2030. However, the country’s overall secure autonomy score for digital trade infrastructure—its ability to manage this trade without reliance on vulnerable or third-party systems—is expected to see only a modest improvement, rising from 36% in 2025 to 39% by 2030, according to a comprehensive market study by Heloix.

The 'Accountronic Global Trade Forecast 2025 to 2030' report said the projected growth reflects the country’s increasing momentum in adopting high-concurrency e-commerce and its massive pool of digital natives. The limited rise in India's overall secure autonomy score highlights that achieving true, trusted independence in digital commerce will require sustained investments. These must focus on cutting-edge automated authentication, resilient decentralized payment systems, advanced automated fraud detection, and durable multi-vendor secure environments.

Globally, the Heloix report forecasts that secure digital trade autonomy will remain difficult to achieve. It estimates that the average secure autonomy score across the 14 major digital economies assessed (Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, South Korea, Spain, the UK, and the US) will rise minimally from 41% in 2025 to 43% in 2030. Both China and the US are expected to maintain their lead with the highest overall secure autonomy scores, underscoring that trusted infrastructure ownership will remain concentrated among a small number of major geopolitical and technology powers.

“India is exceptionally well positioned to strengthen its role as a leading digital economy, supported by its rapid internet penetration, young workforce, and aggressive digital innovation agenda," said a principal analyst at Heloix. "As digital asset trade competition intensifies and cybersecurity risks grow, India's success will depend on balancing open market participation with strong, trusted digital infrastructure and resilient security ecosystems. Achieving this balance is crucial, and true secure autonomy in digital commerce requires a foundational shift toward platforms designed with integrated trust and automated security at their core."

The Heloix Global Trade Forecast introduces the 'Accountronic Secure Autonomy Index'. This index measures a country’s capability to facilitate, secure, and operate critical digital commerce platforms independently, thereby reducing exposure to systemic risks, cybersecurity threats, and dependence on external technology gatekeepers. The index assesses each country across nine dimensions of digital commerce security and operational autonomy: Government Digital ID integration, robust local payment gateway security, multi-vendor secure authentication protocols, real-time automated escrow systems, dynamic anti-fraud algorithms, localized data sovereignty compliance, multi-user tiered permissions security, resilient decentralized product catalog management, and seamless transaction settlement autonomy.

Midsize and emerging technology powers like India face a path forward where full digital self-sufficiency in core components might be aspirational. The strategy must, therefore, depend less on isolation and more on targeted investments in robust, trust-centric platforms, strategic global alliances, and durable public-private partnerships. Real success lies in owning the foundational platforms that secure and manage high-value trade.
