Docterz Raises ₹5 Cr, With Doctors Who Use Its Platform Funding Nearly 60% of the Round

Running a medical practice involves much more than treating patients. Doctors also have to manage appointments, maintain medical records, handle billing, coordinate staff and follow up with patients. These administrative responsibilities can take valuable time away from clinical work.

Mumbai-based healthtech startup Docterz is building software to bring these tasks together in one place. The company has now raised ₹5 Cr from around 35 investors, with nearly ₹3 Cr coming from approximately 20 doctors who already use its platform.

The investor group also includes Vineeta Singh, cofounder of Sugar Cosmetics, and Avnish Anand of CaratLane.

Founded more than a decade ago by practising paediatrician Dr Atish Laddad, Docterz offers an integrated electronic medical records (EMR) and clinic-management platform. The fresh funding will support the company's organic growth, potential acquisitions and development of AI-powered tools for doctors.

### Bringing Clinical and Administrative Workflows Together

Docterz aims to simplify the everyday operations of doctors, independent practitioners, clinics and healthcare organisations.

Its platform covers several aspects of clinic management, including appointment scheduling, electronic medical records, prescriptions, billing, vaccination management and patient engagement.

The company is also using AI to make routine clinical processes easier. Its system is trained on doctors' prescription patterns to help simplify recommendations and related workflows.

Beyond clinical records, the platform includes tools that help doctors share easy-to-understand medical information with patients. It also supports vaccine inventory management, expiry-date tracking and monitoring of medical supplies.

For patients, Docterz offers a WhatsApp-based assistant. They can use it to book appointments, check live waiting times at clinics, access medical records and review their appointment history without installing a separate application.

By connecting these activities, the startup wants to reduce the administrative burden on doctors and make clinic operations more organised.

### Doctors Are Also Becoming Investors

One of the most notable aspects of Docterz's latest fundraise is the participation of its own customers.

Nearly 60% of the ₹5 Cr round came from doctors who already use the platform. Several of these investors have reportedly been customers for years.

Dr Dhananjay Sangle, a paediatrician and one of the doctor-investors, said he has been using Docterz across his paediatric and OB-GYN practices for several years.

This participation offers an indication of the trust the company has built among a section of its users. It also gives Docterz an opportunity to grow through recommendations and relationships within the medical community.

However, customer investment alone does not guarantee wider adoption. The company will need to demonstrate that its software delivers measurable improvements in daily operations and can work reliably across different types of medical practices.

### Where Docterz Plans to Invest the Fresh Capital

The new capital will support three broad priorities.

**1. Building practical AI tools**

Docterz plans to introduce AI capabilities that address everyday challenges faced by doctors. These could include clinical documentation, administrative work and analysis of practice-related data.

The focus is on making these tools useful within existing medical workflows rather than adding technology for its own sake.

**2. Expanding through growth and acquisitions**

The startup intends to grow its existing business while exploring acquisition opportunities that could strengthen its product offering and market presence.

**3. Reaching more doctors and clinics**

Docterz plans to expand its reach among independent practitioners and smaller clinics across India. It also aims to improve its patient-engagement features to make interactions between clinics and patients more convenient.

The company is additionally looking to strengthen its integrations with India's digital healthcare infrastructure, including the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM).

### Can Docterz Become an Operating Platform for Doctors?

Docterz is addressing a problem that affects healthcare providers across the country: managing the business and administrative side of medical practice without compromising time spent with patients.

An integrated platform could be particularly useful for independent doctors and smaller clinics that may not have the resources to operate multiple specialised systems.

The participation of around 20 existing doctor-users in the funding round is an encouraging sign of product acceptance. Having customers invest in the business also creates a potential network of advocates who can introduce the platform to other practitioners.

However, the bigger challenge will be scaling beyond this initial group. Doctors must be comfortable moving their existing records and daily workflows onto the platform. They will also need clear reasons to continue using it, such as reduced administrative work, smoother patient interactions and better control over clinic operations.

AI could create additional opportunities in documentation, follow-ups and routine administrative tasks. But its success will depend on how accurately and seamlessly these features fit into clinical workflows. Responsible handling of sensitive patient information will be equally important.

With fresh capital and backing from doctors who already use its product, Docterz has an opportunity to deepen its presence in India's healthtech market. Its next phase will depend on turning that early customer trust into sustained adoption among a much larger medical community.
