Cognizant and Google Cloud have expanded their partnership to help businesses adopt agentic artificial intelligence (AI) at scale. As part of the initiative, the companies have introduced a new Gemini Frontier Capability Group, bringing together Google's enterprise AI technology and Cognizant's expertise in engineering, industry solutions, and business transformation.
Announced on October 20, 2026, the initiative is designed to help organisations move beyond AI experiments and deploy reliable, secure AI agents in real-world business environments.
The Gemini Frontier Capability Group will bring together a dedicated global team to develop and implement enterprise-ready AI solutions using Google's Gemini platform and Cognizant's technical and domain knowledge.
The initiative is backed by more than 18,000 dedicated Cognizant associates, reflecting a significant joint commitment to advancing enterprise AI adoption. It also builds on the company's Gemini-focused practice, which was launched in April 2026.
The group aims to address a key challenge facing businesses: turning promising AI pilots into solutions that can operate reliably in production environments. Its focus will be on helping enterprises deploy AI agents securely, improve operational performance, and achieve measurable business outcomes.
Ravi Kumar S, CEO of Cognizant, said the dedicated group would allow the company's leading engineering talent to concentrate on bringing advanced AI technologies into production for clients.
Developing AI solutions at enterprise scale requires both technical expertise and a workforce capable of using advanced AI platforms effectively.
As part of its broader skilling effort, Cognizant conducted its 'Build with Gemini' workshop, which provided more than 55,000 associates with hands-on experience using Google's AI technology.
The training initiative is intended to strengthen employees' practical skills and prepare them to develop and deploy AI-powered applications for enterprise customers.
Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud, said organisations need trusted technology partners with strong architectural and integration capabilities to deploy AI agents across complex business environments.
He added that Cognizant's dedicated capability group, combined with training for tens of thousands of engineers on Gemini, would help joint customers accelerate the adoption of autonomous AI agents across their organisations.
The Gemini Frontier Capability Group will initially concentrate on four areas where agentic AI could deliver significant business benefits:
Legacy modernisation: Helping businesses update older technology systems and improve their ability to support modern digital operations.
Developer experience: Using AI to support software development, streamline engineering workflows, and improve productivity.
Autonomous business processes: Applying AI agents to business workflows so they can handle tasks with less manual intervention.
Advanced cyber defence: Using AI capabilities to strengthen cybersecurity and support organisations in responding to emerging digital threats.
Through these areas, the companies aim to develop practical solutions that can be deployed across large organisations rather than remaining limited to experimental projects.
As businesses increasingly rely on AI agents to perform complex tasks, security, reliability, and oversight are becoming essential considerations.
To address these requirements, the new group plans to use standardised, security-first architectures built around the Model Context Protocol (MCP). The architecture will also incorporate Google Cloud's Model Armor to strengthen protection when deploying AI-powered applications.
The approach is intended to help enterprises integrate AI agents into existing systems while maintaining appropriate safeguards and governance.
The emphasis on secure architecture reflects the challenges of deploying autonomous systems across business operations, where AI agents may need to interact with enterprise data, software platforms, and multiple digital tools.
Cognizant is also increasing its use of Google's AI technology within its own workforce.
In July 2026, the company announced plans to deploy Gemini to 100,000 associates during the year, with a longer-term target of expanding access to 200,000 employees.
The company is also continuing to strengthen its commitment to professional certifications on the platform, helping employees build the skills needed to work with Google's AI tools.
The expanded partnership reflects a broader shift in enterprise AI adoption. Businesses are increasingly looking beyond AI demonstrations and small-scale pilots towards systems that can perform useful tasks, integrate with existing operations, and deliver measurable results.
By combining Google's AI platform with Cognizant's engineering capabilities, industry expertise, and workforce training initiatives, the companies aim to make the deployment of autonomous AI agents more practical for large organisations.
The Gemini Frontier Capability Group will focus on turning these technologies into production-ready solutions, with an emphasis on business value, security, and enterprise-scale implementation.
