Apple has reportedly sold out the entire first week’s allocation of its premium foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, in India. The device went on sale on October 23, with Apple’s retail outlets in Mumbai and New Delhi recording particularly strong pre-booking numbers.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone has attracted significant interest from Indian buyers, with its initial stock for the first week reportedly booked in full, according to sources familiar with the company’s inventory.
The Apple Stores at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai and Saket in New Delhi received the highest number of pre-bookings. Booking volumes at the two outlets were reportedly close to each other.
With the initial allocation exhausted, customers may find it difficult to purchase the iPhone Duo directly from Apple Stores without placing an advance order. Pre-bookings for the device opened in India on October 16.
Apple had not immediately responded to an email seeking comments on the reported sales.
The iPhone Duo marks Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone category. With prices expected to range between Rs 3 lakh and Rs 4.5 lakh in India, it sits firmly in the ultra-premium segment. Its price is comparable to that of some of the country’s popular Maruti Suzuki hatchback models.
Despite the high price, the device has generated considerable interest among Apple users and technology enthusiasts. Industry analysts expect it to capture around 24% of India’s foldable smartphone market, placing it in competition with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 series.
Samsung’s foldable flagship is available in India at prices ranging from Rs 1.79 lakh to Rs 2.6 lakh for the 1TB storage variant, making it considerably more affordable than Apple’s new offering.
Tarun Pathak, Director at Counterpoint Research, said the iPhone Duo’s initial appeal would likely come from its design, larger display and user interface. These features could attract existing Apple customers as well as early technology adopters, particularly those who have been waiting for the company to introduce a foldable device.
Pathak expects the iPhone Duo to initially expand the foldable smartphone market in terms of overall value rather than the number of devices sold. Its launch could also draw greater attention to the category and encourage more consumers to consider foldable phones.
The iPhone Duo offers two display configurations depending on how the device is used.
When folded, it features a 5.4-inch screen, providing approximately 90% of the display area available on the iPhone 18 Pro. Opening the device reveals a larger 7.6-inch display, which is around 50% bigger than the screen on the iPhone 18 Pro Max.
For comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro comes with a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max features a 6.9-inch screen.
The foldable design allows users to carry a relatively compact smartphone while having access to a much larger screen when needed. This combination of portability and additional display space is expected to be a major selling point for the device.
The strong initial response to the iPhone Duo comes as Apple continues to expand its presence in India. The company has recorded strong performance in the country, supported by rising demand for its smartphones.
Apple’s annual revenue in India is estimated to have exceeded $10 billion, equivalent to nearly Rs 1 lakh crore. The growth has been supported by record iPhone shipments during the financial year 2025–26.
According to Counterpoint Research, Apple shipped around 14 million iPhones in India during FY26, representing a 24% increase compared with the previous year.
The iPhone remains Apple’s biggest revenue contributor in India and is also the country’s leading smartphone export. The company’s latest foldable offering adds another premium product to its portfolio as it seeks to build on demand from Indian consumers.
The reported sell-out of the iPhone Duo’s initial stock highlights the interest in Apple’s entry into the foldable segment, although its long-term market performance will depend on continued demand, availability and how consumers respond to its premium pricing.
