Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani has emerged as the biggest gainer among the world’s billionaires, adding $6.3 billion to his wealth in a single day. The increase followed a sharp rise in Reliance Industries shares after the company reported stronger-than-expected quarterly results.
According to Forbes’ Real-Time Billionaires List, Ambani’s net worth climbed 7.85% on November 2, taking his total wealth to $88.8 billion. This made him the biggest wealth gainer globally in the latest update of the ranking.
The increase was significantly higher than the gains recorded by other billionaires. Spanish retail tycoon Amancio Ortega added $1.7 billion, while China’s Zhong Shanshan saw his wealth rise by $1.5 billion.
Ambani also moved to the 23rd position on the global billionaire list, retaining his place as India’s richest individual. Gautam Adani ranked 26th, with an estimated net worth of $79.12 billion, according to Forbes.
The jump in Ambani’s wealth came alongside a strong rally in Reliance Industries shares. The stock rose 11.6% on Monday, marking its best single-day performance in more than six years. It closed at the day’s high and emerged as the top gainer on the benchmark Nifty 50 index.
The rally followed Reliance’s September-quarter earnings announcement. The company reported a 40.6% year-on-year increase in consolidated net profit to Rs 25,548 crore, comfortably exceeding market expectations.
Improved refining and petrochemical margins, along with better earnings from its telecom business Jio, contributed to the stronger performance.
The results also strengthened investor confidence in Reliance’s oil-to-chemicals and digital services businesses. However, the company’s retail operations continued to face pressure on profitability.
During the quarter, Reliance’s core earnings from refining rose 68%, while Jio Platforms recorded a 16.6% increase in core earnings.
Forbes describes Mukesh Ambani as the chairman and head of Reliance Industries, a company with annual revenue of around $125 billion and business interests spanning petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecommunications, retail, media and financial services.
Reliance was established in 1966 by Ambani’s father, Dhirubhai Ambani, who began the business as a small textile manufacturer. Following Dhirubhai’s death in 2002, Mukesh and his younger brother Anil divided the family’s business interests.
The group has since expanded into several major sectors, with telecommunications and digital services becoming important parts of its business.
Jio Platforms made its stock market debut in October 2026, reaching a market capitalisation of approximately $137 billion. The listing made it India’s second-most valuable company, behind its parent, Reliance Industries.
Ambani’s three children joined Reliance’s board in 2023 as the group continued to develop its leadership structure. His eldest son, Akash Ambani, leads Jio, while daughter Isha Ambani oversees the retail and financial services businesses. His younger son, Anant Ambani, is involved in the group’s energy operations.
Beyond its existing businesses, Reliance is also preparing to expand its presence in artificial intelligence. In 2026, Ambani announced a planned investment of $110 billion in AI infrastructure across India over the next seven years.
The proposed investment reflects the conglomerate’s ambition to strengthen its position in emerging technologies while building on its presence in energy, telecommunications, retail and digital services.
