EKA Mobility Strengthens Manufacturing Network with Six New Facilities Across Pune and Pithampur

EKA Mobility has expanded its manufacturing operations with the inauguration of six facilities across Pune in Maharashtra and Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh. The move is aimed at increasing production of electric buses, trucks and smaller commercial vehicles as the adoption of electric fleets gathers pace in India.

The newly opened facilities form part of the company’s larger manufacturing network, which comprises 11 facilities spread across 120 acres. According to EKA Mobility, the network has the capacity to produce more than 40,000 electric vehicles annually, backed by investments of over Rs 3,500 crore.

The facilities will support several stages of vehicle production, including assembly and engineering, as well as the manufacturing of battery enclosures, seats and vehicle interiors.

EKA Mobility has also reported strong business growth. The company claims to have recorded a 1,243% year-on-year increase in the first half of FY27. It says its order book currently includes more than 11,000 buses.

Founder and Chairman Sudhir Mehta said making electric mobility affordable and accessible remains central to the company's vision. He noted that technological progress would have limited value unless the benefits reached the people who rely on these vehicles in their daily lives.

Competition in India's Electric Bus Market

Despite its expansion plans, EKA Mobility faces growing competition in India's electric bus segment.

Data based on VAHAN registrations show that 2,944 electric buses were registered across the country between January and June 2026, marking a 40% increase compared with the same period last year.

Switch Mobility recorded the highest number of registrations at 830, followed by JBM Auto with 635 and PMI Electro Mobility with 574. Pinnacle Mobility Solutions, the company behind EKA Mobility, registered 171 electric buses during the period, representing 5.8% of the market.

Government Support for Electric Mobility

Government initiatives are also contributing to the expansion of India's electric commercial vehicle ecosystem.

The outlay for the PM E-DRIVE scheme was increased to Rs 11,900 crore in August 2026. Of this amount, Rs 4,391 crore has been allocated to support 14,028 electric buses, while Rs 500 crore has been set aside for 5,643 electric trucks. The scheme has been extended for most vehicle segments until March 2028.

Another initiative, the PM-eBus Sewa payment-security programme, is designed to support the deployment of more than 38,000 electric buses. The programme aims to address payment-related concerns faced by bus operators, including delays in receiving payments.

In addition, the Rs 25,938-crore production-linked incentive (PLI) programme for the automotive sector is intended to encourage domestic manufacturing of advanced automotive technologies.

With its expanded manufacturing infrastructure, EKA Mobility is looking to increase production capacity and strengthen its position in India's growing electric commercial vehicle market.
