In a leased property close to Chennai, V Harish, a financial content producer with over a million followers, committed suicide. His father has alleged that online harassment contributed to his son’s distress, while venture studio Zemuria Inc. CEO Jason Samuel has denied the accusations.
V Harish, a 27-year-old finance influencer, has died by suicide, prompting allegations from his family that he faced online harassment in the period leading up to his death.
Harish’s father has accused Jason Samuel, CEO of venture studio Zemuria Inc., of targeting his son online. The dispute reportedly intensified after Harish’s Instagram account was disabled by Meta following allegations raised by Samuel. Harish subsequently began sharing videos through a new Instagram handle.
His father has alleged that the online conflict caused Harish significant emotional stress and contributed to his death. He has called for a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Responding to the controversy on October 20, Samuel expressed grief over Harish’s death and denied engaging in cyberbullying.
In a post on X, Samuel said his criticism had focused on what he described as concerns about Harish’s financial regulatory credentials and the way he represented his authorisations.
Samuel alleged that Harish did not hold the required registration as a SEBI-registered investment adviser (RIA). He also questioned Harish’s claims regarding an Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI) authorisation, stating that Harish had obtained an ARN only recently.
Samuel maintained that his intention was to raise concerns about regulatory compliance rather than harass Harish. He said he had encouraged the influencer to continue his work with the appropriate SEBI registration and expressed shock and sorrow over the outcome.
These statements represent Samuel’s account of the dispute; the allegations made by Harish’s family remain a separate matter for investigation.
According to a report by South First, the Tambaram police have added a charge of abetment of suicide under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) in connection with Harish’s death.
Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the family’s allegations of online harassment. The investigation is expected to examine the claims and the events leading up to Harish’s death.
The case has renewed attention on the potential consequences of online disputes and the importance of establishing the facts through a proper investigation.
